General Description

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes absent (2), or short (1). Culms erect; 40-85-150 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane (2), or a ciliolate membrane (2). INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle; exserted, or embraced at base by subtending leaf (1). Panicle open. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels filiform. FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; dorsally compressed; 3.5-6.416-11 mm long; falling entire. Spikelet callus linear. GLUMES Glumes both absent or obscure. FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate (1), or elliptic (2), or ovate (1); membranous; without keel; 5 -veined, or 6-7 -veined (1). Lemma midvein without distinctive roughness (2), or scaberulous (1). Lemma lateral veins ribbed. Lemma surface smooth (1), or scaberulous (1), or scabrous (1); glabrous (2), or hispidulous (1); hairy on veins (1/1). Lemma apex acuminate; muticous (1), or awned (2); 1 -awned (2/2). Palea 0.8 length of lemma; 2 -veined (1), or 3 -veined; without keels. FLOWER Lodicules 2. Anthers 1. FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; ellipsoid (2/2), or oblong (1/2). DISTRIBUTION Temperate Asia, or Tropical Asia (1).
