General Description

Hemi-epiphytic vine. Stem internodes c. 8 cm long. Prophyll not seen. LEAVES: Petiole 20-23 cm long. Leaf blade 53-60 x 15-18 cm, oblong to oblong lanceolate, apex acute, base obtuse, primary lateral veins 12 per side, indistinct; posterior divisions absent. INFLORESCENCE: 1-3 per floral sympodium, peduncle (5-)10-15 cm long. Spathe 16 x 3.8 cm, oblong elongated, greenish-green outside, moderately constricted. Spadix ca. 13-15 cm long, male zone ca. 10 cm long, cream; intermediate male sterile zone ca. 0.6-1 cm long, green; female zone 3.5-4 cm long, green. Flowers: only female part seen; ovary uniovulate, placentation basal. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries 0.8-1 x 0.4-0.6 cm, orange.

Northwestern South America.


Least Concern (LC). Distributed throughout Northwestern South America, this species is not particularly threatened and some of its populations are included in protected areas.
