General Description

Hemi-epiphytic or sometimes epilithic vine. Stem pale greyish-chestnut coloured, internodes 2 – 2.8 cm long. Prophyll 26 x 12 cm, triangular-lanceolate, green. LEAVES: Petiole 39-70 cm long, green with pale green grooves. Leaf blade 30-56 x 19-25 cm, ovate-triangular, apex acute, base sagittate, sinus ± parabolic to V-shaped, chartaceous to subcoriaceous; anterior division 27-48 x 19-25 cm, 5-6 primary lateral veins, interprimary veins distinct; posterior divisions 11.5-13 x 10-11 cm, acroscopic veins 4 per side, basiscopic veins 4 per side; basal veins 6-8 per side, none or rarely 1 free to base; posterior rib naked for 4-5.5 cm. INFLORESCENCE: 1-2 per floral sympodium, peduncle 3-12 cm long. Spathe 12-15 x 4-5 cm long, boat-shaped, moderately constricted, green outside, cream inside. Spadix 9-11 cm long, male zone 6-7 cm long; male sterile zone 1-1.5 cm long; female zone 4.5-5.5 cm long. Flowers: stamens 0,8-1,5 x 1-1,3 mm, intermediate staminodes 1.5-2 x 1.3-1.8 mm, gynoecium 0.9-1.8 x 0.7-1.5 mm, ovoid, ovary 8-9-locular, ovules 5-6 per locule, placentation sub-basal. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries not seen.

Hemi-epiphytic or epilithic in tropical forest.

Distribution

Southeastern Brazil, Minas Gerais state.

Conservation

Data deficient (DD). Further collections are needed to allow complete evaluation of this species.
