General Description

Stem during flowering ca. 1-3 cm in diameter. LEAVES long petiolate. Petioles erect-ascending, apex recurved, terete, 11-16 cm long, 6-7 mm in diameter at halfway, yellowish, red-tinged towards the apex. Petiole of the upper leaf sheath at the base for 1.3 cm. Blade deflexed, lanceolate, shortly acute, acuminate, narrowly sub-deltoid at the base, 14.5-21.5 cm long, 3.8-6.2 cm wide, margins slightly recurved, reddish, base narrowly connate on the upper side of the petiole; ca. 12 primary veins on both sides, barely more conspicuous than the intermediate ones. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle commonly absent. Spathe adnate at the base to the peduncle of the spadix [stipe], 11 cm long, cream coloured, internally deep red, apex cuspidate, expanded part obovate, 6.5 cm long, 3.2 cm wide. Peduncle of the spadix [stipe] 1.5 cm long, adnate for its entire length to the base of the spathe. Spadix 8.5 cm long, female zone 2 cm long. Pistils 1.6-1.8 mm long; stigma discoid, 1.2 mm in diameter; ovary 7-locular; locules somewhat stretched out above halfway ('loculis paullum ultra medium productis'); ovules 2-3 per locule, erect from the base.

Diagnostic Description

Affinities with Philodendron glaziovii Hook. f., distinguished from this by terete petioles, smaller subsessile inflorescence and fewer ovules.
