General Description

Shoots long, flagelliform. Stem cylindric, rarely slightly flattened, 0.6-0.8 cm in diameter, from green, dark green, greenish brown, to straw coloured, from dull, slightly lustrous to, rarely, lustrous. Internodes in young plants 1.9-13.0 cm long, in adult plants (0.6-) 5.5-7.0 (-11.0) cm long, light when young. New adventitious roots yellowish-green to yellow with the apex pink to red, becoming brown with time, 1.0 cm in diameter. Prophyll membranous, light green with dark green stripes, caducous, 4.5-8.5 cm long and 1.1-2.1 cm wide at the base. Cataphyll light green to green with darker striations, with the upper surface of the sheath more lustrous. LEAVES: Petiole 6.0-9.5 cm long and the adult 5.7-23.5 cm long and 0.2-0.3 cm in diameter at the apex, from flattened on the upper side and rounded on the lower side to flattened on both sides, green when young with striations concolorous to darker than the surface on the upper side and darker on the lower side. Sheath green, concolorous with the petiole, lustrous to slightly lustrous on the upper side and dull on the lower side 5.6-22.5 cm long and 1.0-1.9 cm wide, up to a distance of 1.0 cm from the blade, sometimes elongated up to the insertion with the blade, slightly closed at the base of the petiole and open and expanded up to the base of the blade, presence of ligule which can exceed the base of the blade, lower side distinctly striate with dark green lines and lighter on the central axis. Leaf blade membranous to slightly papery, young [leaf] narrowly lanceolate and longly acuminate, 10.5-14.0 cm long and 2.5-3.5 cm wide, adult [leaf] lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate to oblong-elliptic (10.0-)14.5-17.5(-25.5) cm long and 4.2-7.3(10.5) cm wide, green with the lower side lighter, base slightly cordate to rounded, acuminate, lustrous on the upper side and dull on the lower side, lustrous on both sides to rarely dull on both sides. Midrib impressed on the upper side and prominent on the lower side, slightly paler to concolorous on the upper side and paler to slightly paler on the lower. Primary lateral veins 6-9 pairs, slightly impressed on the upper side, and slightly prominent on the lower, slightly lighter to concolorous on the upper side and lighter to slightly lighter on the lower side in relation to the blade. INFLORESCENCE: Floral sympodium with only one inflorescence. Peduncle green with darker striations, 2.0-4.0 cm long and 0.7 cm wide. Spathe 8.0-16.5 cm long and 1.3 cm wide in the central region, cylindric, cuspidate, with a slight differentiation between the tube and blade, externally green when closed and when open from white to greenish cream with many dark green striations at the base and a dark green dorsal line from the base to the central region, internally cream with yellowish resin canals, decurrent for 1.2-2.3 cm long. Spadix 6.5-9.2 cm long, 1 cm long stipe present, apical zone rarely with 3 partially sterile stamens; fertile male zone cream, ferruginous resin absent, 3.5-5.0 cm long, and 0.5-1.1 cm in diameter; sterile male zone whitish cream 0.5-1.0 cm long and 1.1-1.3 cm in diameter; female zone greenish, 2.5-3.4 cm long and 1.0-1.1 cm in diameter. Stamens 2(-3) per flower, 1.5-2.0 mm high and 1.0-1.5 mm wide at the apex. Staminodes cream, 2.0-2.3 mm high and 0.9-2.0 mm wide at the apex, narrowed towards the base. Gynoecia ca. 2.0-3.9 mm high and 1.0-1.9 mm wide at the apex, ovary greenish oblong to oblong-obovate, light green, locules 3-4, ovules various per locule, placentation axile, stigma globose from light green to brown. INFRUCTESCENCE: Mature with berries yellowish green, yellow to orange, 5.5-7.5 cm long and 2.5 cm in diameter in the central region, berries 7.0-8.0 mm long and 2.0-3.0 mm wide at the apex, with several seeds, stigma persistent, seeds oblong to oblong-lanceolate 1.0 mm long and 0.4-0.5 mm wide in the central region. Some seeds were observed to be galled.
