General Description

Stem scandent, robust, covered with a solid epidermis, longitudinally sulcate when dry, upper internodes somewhat compressed, 6-10 cm long, 1.2-1.8 cm thick. LEAVES: Petioles subterete, moderately robust, base strongly dilated and sheathed, thickened at the top with an apical geniculum, 14-18 cm long. Blade rigid, subcoriaceous, narrowly oblong, apex acute, base obtuse, 20-28 cm long, up to 9 cm wide; lateral veins very dense and numerous, all equal, distinctly prominent especially underneath, usually emerging from the rather robust midrib at an obtuse angle, ascending slightly arcuately. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle short, terete, robust, 3-4.5 cm long, 6-8 mm thick. Spathe oblong, apex acuminate, barely constricted halfway, 8-10 cm long, 3-3.5 cm wide. Spadix slender, cylindric, apex acute, shortly stipitate, 6-8 cm long, 5-8 mm thick; female zone equal in length to ca. half the male zone, male zone equally thick as the female zone or somewhat thickened at the base, attenuating upwards. Pistils depressed-cylindric, 2-2.5 mm long, with a small and rounded stigma, 4-5 locular, locules uniovulate. Male flowers 4-5-androus.
