General Description

Stem climbing up trees or just creeping, up to 4 m long, internodes thick, smooth, 8-10 cm long. Cataphyll over 10 cm long, soon deciduous. LEAVES: Petiole rather terete, deeply sulcate on the upper side, 10-13 cm long, sheathed for ca. 1/3 the length; blade bright ('laete') green, rather thick, subcoriaceous, oblong-elliptic, somewhat unequal-sided, apex shortly acuminate, base obtuse, rarely sub-acute, 14-16 cm long, 7-8 cm wide, sub-equally narrowed on both sides, midrib rather wide at the base, strongly attenuating from halfway upwards, primary lateral veins barely thicker than the numerous secondary veins, all arcuate upwards towards the margin. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncles usually in 3-4s, ca. 2 cm long. Spathe oblong, apex acuminate, very slightly constricted halfway, 4-5 cm long, convolute, 6-8 mm in diameter. Spadix sessile, sub-cylindric, apex acute, 4-4.5 cm long; female and male zone equally long, and there are tightly contiguous. Pistil somewhat depressed, 4-6-angular, 3-4-locular, locules uniovulate, stigma small, orbicular. Male flowers usually 2-3-androus.
