General Description

Hemi-epiphytic vine. Stem internodes ca. 2 cm long. Prophyll not seen. LEAVES: Petiole 18-28 cm long. Leaf blade 25-30 x 19-24 cm, broadly ovate, mucronate apex, base cordate, chartaceous; anterior division 18.5-22 x 19-24 cm, primary lateral veins 3-4 per side; posterior division 5-7.5 x 9-9.5 cm, acroscopic veins 2-3 per side; basal veins 2-5 per side, none free to base; posterior rib not naked. INFLORESCENCE: 1 per floral sympodium, peduncle 3-4 cm long. Spathe 11-12 cm long, colour not seen. Spadix 11-12.5 cm long; male zone 6 cm long; male sterile zone ca. 0.6 cm long; female zone ca. 3.5 cm long, Flowers: gynoecium 1.8-2 x 1-1.3 mm, ovoid, ovary with 8-9 locules, ovules 4-5 per locule, placentation sub-basal. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries not seen.


Tropical Forest.


Brazil: Espírito Santo, Mun. Domingos Martins. Apart from the type, recollected only once, in 1971, by R. Burle Marx in Espírito Santo state.
