General Description

Hemi-epiphytic scandent plant. Roots produced from the nodes; internodes 3-10 cm long, 0.3-0.5 cm in diameter, transversely rugose, dull brown. LEAVES: Prophyll 5-10 cm long, marcescent and persistent, membranous, brown-grey-brown, with lighter striations, with cataphylls in between sympodial leaves and inflorescences. Petiole 2-4 cm long, 0.2-0.3 cm in diameter, green, with darker striations, with a geniculum at the apex flattened on the adaxial side, rounded abaxially; sheath short or nearly absent. Leaf blade 8-25 cm long, 2-5.2 cm wide, oblanceolate, apex acuminate, obtuse at the base, upper surface dark green, semiglossy, lower surface light green, dull, with resin lines evident; midrib slightly sulcate and impressed on the upper surface, prominent on the lower surface, interprimary veins present. INFLORESCENCE solitary. Peduncle 0.7-2.5 cm long, slender in life as much as when dry. Spathe 5-7 cm long, oblong; tube 3-3.5 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter, swollen, externally light green, internally light green; blade 2-3.5 cm long, 0.7-1.6 cm in diameter, externally light green, not glossy. Spadix 6.5 cm long, slightly stipitate; female zone 2 cm long, 1.3 cm in diameter; intermediate sterile male zone 1 cm long, 1.4 cm in diameter, wider towards the apex; fertile male zone 3.5 cm long, 1.3 cm in diameter, apex obtuse. Flowers: Stamens 3-4 per flower, 1.5 mm long, 0.75 mm wide. Staminodes 2 mm long, 2.5 mm wide, narrowing towards the base. Gynoecia: 2.2-2.5 mm long; ovary 2 mm long, 1.5 mm wide; locules 4-6 per ovary, full of a transparent mucilaginous substance; ovules ca. 18-20 per locule, 0.85 mm long, funicle with trichomes; placentation axile, biseriate, ovules inserted near the base; style ca. 0.5 mm long; stigma 1.5-2 mm wide, discoid. INFRUCTESCENCE: 4-5 cm long, 2-2.3 cm in diameter; berry 0.3-0.6 mm long, 4-5 mm in diameter, orange; seed 1.25 mm long, 0.4 mm in diameter, subglobose.
