General Description

Scandent herb. Stem slender, 0.9 cm diam., pale brown, strongly glossy, internodes ca. 5 cm long. LEAVES: Petiole 38 cm long, sheathed part 3 cm long, swollen in juvenile plants. Blades papery (when dry), tripartite; central lobe obovate, 27 cm long, 11 cm wide (at a point 15 cm above the base of the midrib), apex acuminate (2-2.5 cm), midrib adaxially 0.6-0.7 cm wide near base, emerging at a 55-60º angle, markedly arcuate towards the margin. Lateral lobes broadly patent, outline more or less elliptic, to 16.5 cm long, 4-5 cm wide (in juvenile plants shorter and wider, more than half as short as the anterior lobe), narrowed towards the base, 2-2.3 cm wide, attenuate upwards but apex obtuse, posterior ribs emerging at 180º angle, naked for 1,3 cm on outside or not at all. INFLORESCENCE solitary. Peduncle 11.5 cm long. Spathe 10.6 cm long, tube 7 cm long. Spadix longer than spathe, sessile, nevertheless the front of the axis is shortly naked. Pistillate flowers: ovary 5-locular, locules uniovulate. Staminate flowers apparently 4-androus.
