eMonocot will deliver ten major products

1. 70,000 outline species pages (using the WCM): will include the currently accepted name, synonymy, original place(s) of publication, short references to geographical distribution and life form
2. Illustrated interactive keys and taxon pages to the 77 families of monocots for biodiversity scientists. Also family pages: taxonomic description and nomenclature, images, information on diversity (number of genera and species) and geographical distribution. Links to literature, other information sources, APG website
3. Genus level treatment of eight major monocot families containing over 75% of species. 4. Comprehensive species pages will include: a) European monocots (~2000 species) linked to the British Ecological Society’s Ecological Flora project, PESI. b) “Sampled Red List Index” monocots (1500 species) linked to SRLI Scratchpad) Cypripedioideae (slipper orchids) (~130 species) (Monograph/SOF)
5. To populate further pages by providing software tools to enable monocot scientists anywhere in the world to participate in eMonocot; to create social structures and working practices to facilitate and manage these global interactions.

9. Test that the eMonocot  software can be applied to animal groups as well as plants by ensuring compatibility and compliance with the Zoological Code of Nomenclature
10. Develop a Web-based system of assessing the impact of taxonomic work (equivalent to citation indices in traditional science publishing).
